Great American Ballpark

working, working, working. it was time for a break... what better way than to visit another ballpark with some friends from work! this round... Cincinnati, OH. Friday, May 27, 2005 Reds vs Pirates. like i said.. had to work, but was able to squeeze in a few innings. this game by far had the best ending i've seen in a long time. the Reds were winning 5-3 until a wild throw to 1st caused 2 pirate runs to come in. so now the score was 5-5, Reds were up to bat in the bottom of the 9th, runners on 1st and 3rd. Felipe Lopez (FLopez) was up to the plate with 1 out. his bat connected and shattered... both the ball and a huge chunck of the bat flew towards the shortstop. what would have normally been a routine out at home required a bit more effort with flying peices of the bat in the air. anyway, the run scored... game over. Reds fans were excited of course!

here is a VR shot of where our steats were. it pays to get there late. noone else was using them :)

so... let's count them up. here is the list of ballparks i've been to now:

Texas Rangers - old park
Texas Rangers - Ballpark in Arlington
Atlanta Braves
Anaheim Angles
Houston Astros
New York Yankees
San Fransisco Giants
Cincinnati Reds

that's 8. count em rick! ha! it's all fun.

zoundry

this one is from http://www.zoundry.com and is free, but only runs on windows.  it supports blogger, typepad, and atom api.  definately not as easy to use as the previous editors i have tried, but i have a hard time complaining about free.

i'm starting to sense that the story behind the way all of these work is that BloggerAPI was the first to break the ice a while back.  MetaWeblog (using xmlrpc) improved the existing methods and allowed for more attributes to be assiciated with an entry.  and Atom must be the newbie.

MarsEdit

marseditok, this one is even better! MarsEdit does basically the same thing as ecto, but the interface looks just like a typical email client. checkout the screenshot!

-----update-----
maybe work great for some systems... but turns out for blogger it uses the BloggerAPI which doesn't support titles (had to update it manually). unfortunately, no Atom support with MarsEdit.

ecto post

This is a test post using ecto for Mac OS X. It is a client side based tool for posting and editing a blog. it makes it much easier to edit than to login each time. let's see if it works!

blog via xml

i noticed in my flickr account settings, that the photos can easily post to any blog. well... that concept isn't new to me since that's what i use to post photos to this one. but what got me curious is that they say any blog. i was certain that there was just some partnership or agreement between blogger and flickr (which may be). but it seems after looking into it more... flickr is using several open methods to communicate with blogs of all shapes and sizes... all of which are using XML web services. from what i can tell, that basically means XML documents are used to send data to/from the remote server (the blog in this case). of course, i want to get in on the fun if it really means any shape and size.

it seems there are a few common standard versions of the markup for a developer to base the web service on... but since they all claim to be "the best" option, it's hard to really know. what i was hoping is that someone would come across this entry and leave feedback in the comments. it would be helpful to know what "next steps" to take. i see lots of help online describing how to interface with blogger and other blogging systems by using an existing api. but what i don't see lots of is the other side of the process. if one were to write a blog software, where would he/she (actually me) go to learn more about specific do's and don't's?

just based on the flickr "add blog" settings, i see these standards:

Atom Enabled Blog
BloggerAPI Enabled Blog
MetaWeblogAPI Enabled Blog
and alot of xmlrpc

from what i can see... the Atom thing looks sweet. the blogger api looks great at first, but then i noticed the website wasn't updated in a couple years and they say it's not supported. anyway, it says titles are not suppored with this api.

anyway... just looking for the urls for this post... i ran across this. it explains the benefits of Atom, but it is still prejudice to the method blogger picked. if you know anything about this topic... drop a comment if you don't mind. let us all learn from your experience.

tigerized

i just got tiger installed today. not all much different than panther i find. but let me tell ya... it's worth upgrading for the new filesystem search tool (spotlight). thang is quick! the new dashboard widgets are pretty slick too. i like it better than the konfabulator... but not lots of widgets at the moment. guess the dev community will need a few more weeks to overwhelm apple's site with worthless/half-tested new widgets for dashboard. maybe i'll check back in a few months.
