iTunes 4.9 podcasts
iTunes is finally supporting podcasts directly without needing an external iPodder client. if you have not listened to a podcast yet, check it out... podcasts come in every style of music and talk radio you can imagine. it's like radio, but you can listen to the broadcast anytime you want. you can even specify URLs of custom RSS feeds... not just podcasts from the Music Store. that's nice! however, the iTunes Music store has tons of podcasts to get you started.

widget update: Book Of Wisdom
i've decided to call the proverbs widget the "Book Of Wisdom". i think.
download
it's been updated with every verse in the book of Proverbs (from the KJV of the Bible). the widget will reload using a new verse from Proverbs every 30 seconds. i also managed to figure out how to make the widget flip around to display the settings view (not that this widget has any settings). but it was fun to figure out anyway.
if you have a mac and it is running Tiger, you can DOWNLOAD the Book Of Wisdom widget. let me know if it works for ya... just realize it's not finished. i'm gonna need to test it on a few systems and add all the copyright/license stuff. i'd also like to use the NIV rather than KJV. what do you think? i just find it easier to read. i guess if all goes well, i'll try to submit it to the apple dashboard site.

my first widget
wrote my first widget for the tiger dashboard. i used the proverbs concept i mentioned earlier in the sourceforge post. it's pretty basic at this point. for starters, i just loaded up the 28 verses in chapter 17. a random verse will appear each time the widget is loaded. obviously much more to do to be able to post to the apple site... but it's too late for that tonight.

SourceForge
i decided to join SourceForge.net to see how the site works. basically, it's a place where people who write open source software can manage the development process and colaborate with others who may be interested in helping with the project. i'm thinking of starting a project... open source software has been good to me. i'd kinda like to give something back. i just have to think of a project worth working on.ok, here's an idea... i've been reading in the book of Proverbs lately and noticed that each verse is typically a complete thought. morphing the data from a bible database into a nice "quote of the day" style interface would be useful. i've also been looking for something fun to do in flash too. ok, that'll work. i guess it will... does sourceforge allow Flash projects?
--- update June 19 ---
ok, after looking into the elaborate process for setting up a new project on sourceforge, i realized it may be faster to just write the program. my scope was a little to small for sourceforge. the setup timeframe is about 30 minutes long, and sourceforge must approve your project. might have to re-think this one. it's still interesting how the site works tough.
