stats on the widget

i was starting to wonder if anyone was even downloading the Book Of Wisdom widget, so i finally cracked into the website statisticts for my site and was pleasently surprised. it has been downloaded 1,634 times so far. sweet!!! i would have done lots more to it if i woulda known that!!!



apple did accept the widget and posted it on the dashboard download site. guess that had to help a little bit :)

you can still download the widget at the original post. i'm gonna grab a fresh cup of coffee and start working on some upgrades. booyah!

flash photo viewer

here's a nifty app i built in macromedia flash to deliver photos to any website. my goal was to have a nice looking viewer without having to edit the source file everytime i wanted to post a set of photos. all you have to do is put a copy of the .swf in the same folder as 12 images and you instantly have a new set. here's the instructions:

- download and unzip slides.swf
- find 12 great photos and name them like this:

1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpg
4.jpg
5.jpg
6.jpg
7.jpg
8.jpg
9.jpg
10.jpg
11.jpg
12.jpg

- crop the phots to 400x266 (that's a 4x6 scaled down)
- place the 12 images and slides.swf all into the same directory
- create HTML files and embed slides.swf
- upload to your webserver.

as the images load, they will start to appear as thumbnails. the total size of the set will depend on how much compression is applied to the jpegs. slides.swf alone is only 4 KB. my demo set below is about 800 KB total.



things i could add to the viewer some day (or night):
- flash player version detection (currently only works with version 7+)
- a load movie (image) progress bar
- allow more than 12 photos (unlimited) in a single viewer
- automatically discover the filenames of jpegs rather than naming them 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc...

Widget: Book Of Wisdom

The Book Of Wisdom is now availible to download. This dashboard widget for Mac OS X will randomly display a verse from Proverbs, the book in the Bible filled with wisdom and ways of improving our lives. The verse will refresh every 30 seconds.

i hiked my first 14er today! yeah!!! i'm exhausted.

my buddy donnie and i took the route starting at the crags campground. this path to the summit is about 5.5 miles long with a 4,000 ft gain in elevation. i've never done a hike like this before so it was pretty tough on my lungs. i guess it would help if i was in shape! ha! still, it wasn't too bad. i am definately going to do this again! i'd go again next week if i could. might have to try the front side next time!
